Pilates was first introduced to me at a local gym in spring 2000. Back then most people had never heard of Pilates , and those that had, didn't know how to pronounce the word! Having already been practicing yoga for some time, I went along to my first Pilates matwork class, thinking it would be a very similar experience. As I walked into the studio, little did I know I was about to encounter something that would change my life completely... ''You can only see what your brain can recognise..''
In other words, if we have poor self-awareness of the ideal posture of the human body and its optimum musculo-skeletal movement patterns, we are unable to recognise our postural tendencies or faulty movement habits. My first few Pilates sessions revealed small facts about my body, like how I was favouring one side more than the other. I was simply fascinated by how these exercises could tell me so much about my muscular imbalance, areas of tension, and let me discover the muscles I would not have otherwise known had existed in me! From that moment Pilates became my passion and I began my journey to re-educate my body to restore alignment and build strength.
Several years on, my journey still continues, and I am enjoying the ride. Pilates has helped me discover my physical potential and I am so glad I have a body that is far more flexible and toned than ever before. In 2005, I decided to take my Pilates to the next level and started my matwork teacher training with the PILATESfoundation® UK, known for its in-depth 12 month training encompassing all aspects of the Pilates method from human anatomy and physiology to practical application of Pilates exercises from both the classical & evolved repertoires. Having successfully become qualified to teach Pilates matwork at all levels, I then went on to take another 18 month training course with the Foundation in order to become a certified Pilates instructor on all studio apparatus.
I would love to share the benefits of the Pilates method with as many people as possible. Whether you are looking for remedial exercise or wanting to improve your general fitness, Pilates responds to individual needs by making you gain conscious control of the way you stand, move, and get on with your life. So why should you Choose Pilates? I hope you have found the answer on my website. |
