What is Pilates?

What is Pilates?

Pilates exercises were invented by Joseph H. Pilates in the 1920s and he called his exercise method 'Contrology'. It involves performing a series of movements with control & precision, improving joint alignment and balancing muscles, as well as enhancing body and movement awareness

Many healthcare professionals such as physiotherapists and osteopaths recommend their patients take up Pilates for rehabilitation after injuries, or to treat chronic pain caused by dysfunctional movement patterns.

Pilates for everyone

While some people may start Pilates for chronic pain management, others such as professional dancers, actors, and athletes devote their training time to Pilates in order to enhance their physical performance, but in fact, the benefits of Pilates should be shared by everyone.
